Violearn ("the app") is an independently developed app ("we", "the developer"). This policy explains what information the app handles and how.
Violearn has no accounts, no sign-in, and no servers of our own. Your practice history (scores, streaks, per-note accuracy, lesson progress) is stored only on your device and is never transmitted.
We do use two third-party services that collect limited data on our behalf: Google AdMob for advertising, and Google Firebase for anonymous usage statistics and crash reports. If you ask the app to read the notes from a photo of sheet music, the photo is processed by Google too (see "Music you add"). Both are described below.
The Tuner, Play mode, and instrument calibration use your device's microphone to detect the pitch of the note you are playing. Audio is analyzed in real time on your device only. It is never recorded, stored, or transmitted anywhere. The microphone is active only while one of those features is actually running.
You can add your own music: a MusicXML file you choose, or photographs of printed pages. Both are stored only on your device, inside the app's own storage. When you add a photo, the app receives only the pictures you pick; it has no access to the rest of your photo library and never asks for it. If you scan pages with the camera, the camera is used only while you are scanning, and the scanned pages are stored the same way: on your device only. Deleting a piece in the app, or deleting the app, deletes them.
Reading the notes from a photo. If you ask Violearn to read the notes from a photo of sheet music, that is the one time anything you added leaves your device. The app finds each line of music on the page itself, then sends a picture of each line to Google's Gemini model, through Google Firebase AI Logic, to locate the notes. Only those pictures are sent, only when you tap Read, and with nothing that identifies you. We don't receive or keep them; Google processes them under its Google Cloud terms and the Google Privacy Policy. To stop anyone other than the app using this service, Firebase App Check confirms each request comes from a genuine copy of Violearn, using Apple's App Attest; this involves no personal data. The notes that come back are stored on your device like any other piece.
Violearn shows ads served by Google AdMob: a banner on the Tuner, an occasional full-screen ad between sessions, and video ads you can choose to watch for a reward.
The app never asks for permission to track you (Apple's App Tracking Transparency), so your device's advertising identifier is not available to Google through Violearn. To choose, serve and measure ads and to prevent fraud, Google may still collect certain data from your device, such as a device identifier, a coarse general location derived from your IP address, and ad interaction data (for example, which ads were shown). Ads may be chosen using general information like this and the app they appear in. This data is not linked to your identity by us.

Violearn uses Google Firebase Analytics and Google Firebase Crashlytics.
Analytics records anonymous, aggregated events about how the app is used — for example that a lesson was started or finished, that a Play session ran, or that the tuner was opened — so we can tell which parts of the app are useful. It does not record what you played, any audio, or anything you typed. Firebase assigns a random app-instance identifier and collects standard technical details such as device model, operating system version, and a coarse general location derived from IP address. This is not linked to any identity, because the app has none to link it to.
Analytics is collected only from copies of the app installed from the App Store. Beta (TestFlight) and development builds do not report usage at all.
Crashlytics records crash and error diagnostics — the stack trace and device state at the moment something went wrong — so faults can be found and fixed. This runs in all builds, including beta ones. It contains no practice data and no personal information.

Violearn offers an optional paid subscription, Violearn Pro. Purchases are handled entirely by Apple: we never see or receive your payment details. The app is told only whether an active subscription exists on your device, which is what unlocks Pro. Billing, refunds and cancellation are managed through your Apple Account.
The app has a Send feedback option. It opens your own email app with a message addressed to us and prefilled with the app version, the device model and the iOS version, all of which you can edit or delete before sending. Nothing is sent unless you send it. If you do, we receive your email address and what you wrote, and use them only to read your message and reply. We don't add you to any mailing list or share your message with anyone.
Violearn does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. The app never asks to track anyone, and the usage statistics described above are anonymous.
All practice data (history, progress and settings) lives on your device. Deleting the app deletes all of it. To stop anonymous usage and crash reporting, delete the app; there is no separate account or record held about you to erase. If you've emailed us, ask and we'll delete the conversation.
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new "last updated" date.
